Comparing "Taming of the Shrew" to "(500) Days of Summer"
Introduction
In William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew", several characters claim love at first sight. Specifically there is Lucentio whom eyes are a gazed upon Bianca. He express his love for her to his best men Tranio. As in the movie "500 Days of Summer", the male and female characters are set upon into each others love at their first sighting. Although there is love at first for both accounts, in present day the love is seen by both male and female.

The book begins at a fair, in which Lucentio and Tranio are attending. They are roaming and Lucentio spots Bianca , a radiant beauty, out the crowd. Later on in the scene Lucentio has heard from Baptista, Bianca's father, that he is in search of school masters. Off to the side Lucentio expresses how he feels about Bianca to Tranio.
Lucentio says,
"O Tranio, till I found it to be true,
I never thought it possible or likely.
But see, while idly I stood looking on,
I found the effect of love-in-idleness,
And now in plainness do confess to thee.
That art to me as secret and as dear
As Anna to the Queen of Carthage was:
Tranio, I burn, I pine! I perish, Tranio,
If I achieve not this young modest girl.
Counsel me, Tranio, for I know thou canst.
Assit me, Tranio, for I know thou wilt."
(Act rI, Scene i, 150-160)
In this quote, Lucentio expresses his deep emotion for Bianca. With not even talking to her once he claims there is true romantic love between the two. For the fact that it also the first time reconizing Bianca, there it's Lucentio's love at first sight.
At this point in 500 Days of Summer, Tom and Summer have met each other for the first time in their office space. At this moment they say, "I like you" for this their "love at first sight" without actually saying the word love. In comparison with Shrew, both source experience "love at first sight" by expressing it verbally. The difference is that in 500 Days of Summer the love is mutual, while in Shrew it sought by Lucentio's character.

Petruchio stepped into the story and has taken on the chellange to marry Baptista's daughter, Katherine. Although he has not met her yet, his initial intentions are to marry for the money. His first counters with her, he tries to sweet talk her. As Baptista enters the room, Petruchio expresses his love at first sight to him.
Petruchio says,
"For she's not froward, but modest as a dove;
She is not hot, but temperate as the morn.
For patience she will prove a second Grissel,
And Roman Lucrece for her chastity.
And to conclude, we have 'greed so well together
That upon Sunday is the wedding day."(Act II, Scene i, 310-315)
The next scene from 500 Day of Summer is displayed about is right after their "love at first sight" encounter. Tom and Summer are on a date. This what the typical modern day couple does after they find interest in each other. Unlike Shakespeare's time, love at first sight then called forthwith marriage for the couple. This shows that over the time the book and movie were created the serverity of love at first sight has debased from immdeiate marriage to simple dating.
